In terms of global species, China ranks 8th in the world and 1st in the north hemisphere. More than half of Chinese species are distributed in Yunnan (see figure below). This makes province as one of the areas with the most complex, most colorful and most valuable biodiversity in China. Due to its complex natural terrain, geography and different climates, is endowed with eco-system diversity, and always recognized as the "Kingdom and Animal".

The land area of just accounts for four percent of Chinese total land area, however, its eco-system includes and eco-system, and Shrubbery and Grass ( ) eco-system, Sub-tropical eco-system, Sub-alpine Conifer Forest eco-system, Alpine Meadow eco-system, Alpine-lake eco-system, River eco-system and various man-made eco-systems.
